Pahrump, Nevada is located just west of Las Vegas in Nye County, surrounded by wide-open desert and mountain views. The town sits between the Spring Mountains to the east and the Nopah Range to the west, making it an easy drive from Las Vegas, Death Valley National Park, and the Dumont Dunes.
Long before modern development, the Southern Paiute people lived in the valley and named it “Pah-Rimpi,” meaning “Water Rock,” in reference to the natural artesian springs found throughout the area. In the 1860s, the region briefly drew attention during a gold-prospecting rush, though no major discoveries were made. Even so, Pahrump became a base for recreational mining and exploration, a spirit of adventure that still defines the area today.
Interest in Pahrump grew in the late 1960s as Las Vegas expanded, bringing paved roads and utilities that helped the community take shape. Since the late 1970s, the town has grown rapidly, evolving from a small rural settlement into one of the fastest-growing communities in the region.
Today, Pahrump blends modern amenities with its rugged surroundings. Visitors will find casinos, local coffee shops, wineries, and tasting rooms alongside well-known attractions like Spring Mountain Motor Resort & Country Club and PrairieFire Nevada. The area is also a favorite for RV travelers, outdoor enthusiasts, and golfers, with courses like Mountain Falls Golf Club and Lake View Executive Golf Course set against desert backdrops.
